Are they real or what?

July 3, 2008

I’ve started this blog first of all for me, simply because I needed informations about script contest or script competitions, about agents or about production companies. You can find these infos scattered around the web so I decided to bring them together.

Damn, that’s boring!

Now, after finding dozens of contest I started to ask myself “Come on… are they all real or what?”

Let me give a few examples:
http://screenplaycontests.com/family/
http://www.screenplaycontests.com/holiday/
http://www.screenplaycontests.com/horror/
http://www.screenplaycontests.com/oneinten/
and there are a few more all with the same structure.

Or what about these sites:

[I'll update the list in time]

Do you feel that these sites could represent a major script contest? Oh, my god… even a kid with a few lessons of HTML could build a website nicer.

Why should I trust these contests? Why should I pay? For what?

And then it hit me: boy… you can be a Script Contest Director too. You advertise a website (good or bad) for free in a few specialized directories. You can write any amount for prizes… and in the end you decide who wins the money. Could be a “ghost-script” written by a friend or just a “ghost-script”. I mean… how will the submitters know? They won’t.

And you can win easily a few bucks from their foolishness.

Sounds like a good plan, doesn’t it?

Scaaaaaaaaaaaary!
